ESRU Day 2025 – Focus on Erectile Dysfunction Following Radical Prostatectomy

ESRU Day is an annual event that brings together urology assistants from across Belgium and offers them a unique opportunity to learn about and discuss the challenges and advances in the field. This year’s 2025 edition will focus on prostate disorders, a key topic in urology that affects a large number of patients.

The event will take place in an exceptional setting—on the rooftop of SOKO in Kraainem—a venue that fosters scientific discussions and exchanges between young urologists and established experts in the field.

Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction Following Radical Prostatectomy (Post-RALP)

One of the main topics at this year’s event is erectile dysfunction following robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RALP), a common complication that significantly affects the quality of life of patients being treated for prostate cancer.

In my lecture, I will discuss strategies for preserving and restoring erectile function after radical prostatectomy. We will cover:

  • Mechanisms of post-RALP erectile dysfunction: neurological, vascular, and muscular effects.
  • Options for restoring erectile function: penile rehabilitation, pharmacological treatments, medical devices, and surgical solutions such as penile prostheses.
  • Personalized approaches to optimize outcomes and improve patient satisfaction.

The management of erectile dysfunction following prostate cancer treatment is a major challenge that requires a multidisciplinary approach. The goal is to provide young urologists with the tools they need to better support their patients during this postoperative transition, so that they can regain an optimal quality of life.

ESRU Day 2025 promises to be an important opportunity for future urology specialists to learn and exchange ideas. It is an opportunity to discuss innovations and best practices for improving the treatment of patients with prostate conditions.
