IBPSS Global Study – (m)LUTS

On June 19, 2025, I will have the pleasure of participating in the next phase of the International BPH Patient & Symptom Study (IBPSS). This global project brings together urology experts to advance our understanding of male lower urinary tract symptoms (mLUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostatic obstruction (BPO).

A Global Challenge for a Common Problem

Urinary symptoms caused by BPH affect millions of men worldwide and have a significant impact on their quality of life. Despite their prevalence, these symptoms are still too often downplayed or misunderstood. The IBPSS study aims to bridge this gap by providing a more comprehensive, nuanced, and, above all, patient-centered picture.

As an andrologist, I believe it is essential to approach these conditions with scientific precision, but also with care and empathy. Too many patients suffer in silence or wait too long before seeing a doctor.

High-Level Cooperation

This new phase of the study includes a live meeting featuring discussions of clinical cases, as well as a Delphi consensus process to develop clear recommendations based on collective experience and the best available data.

I will be participating in this session from the Clinique Saint-Jean in Brussels, where the in-person meeting will also take place, in the conference room. It is an honor to host this opportunity for exchange and reflection at our hospital.

A Shared Mission: Improving Healthcare

Participating in the IBPSS study is part of my ongoing commitment to advancing clinical practice while keeping patients’ needs at the center of our therapeutic decisions.

I look forward to working with my international colleagues to help develop a common framework for improving the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of urinary symptoms in men associated with BPH.
