Dr. Sam Ward: Specialist in Penile Implants in Brussels and Belgium

My name is Dr. Sam Ward, and I’d like to share with you my career as a specialist in penile implant surgery in Brussels and throughout Belgium. With a passion for innovation and a patient-centered approach, I have developed recognized expertise in this complex and sensitive field.

Education and Experience

I pursued my medical training with diligence and determination. I have a solid foundation in urological surgery, which has enabled me to specialize in penile implant surgery.

As a urologist and andrologist certified by FEBU (Fellow of the European Board of Urology) and FECSM (Fellow of the European Committee of Sexual Medicine), I have in-depth expertise in the treatment of erectile dysfunction and Peyronie’s disease, in collaboration with Dr. Koenraad Van Renterghem1. My interest in healthcare management and the organization of medical services has also enabled me to develop a comprehensive and sustainable approach to healthcare delivery.

Functions and Ties

In addition to my role as a surgeon, I have the honor of participating in various international activities, particularly within UNESCO and other medical associations. As a member of the Executive Committee of the UNESCO Chair in Sexual Health and Human Rights, I oversee the appointment of national correspondents to integrate the principles of sexual health into institutional policies and practices.² This mission is crucial for promoting sexual health education and equity on a global scale.

I am also involved with a number of professional organizations, including serving as Social Media Editor for the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM) and as an officer on the Communications Committee of the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM)1. In addition, I am vice chair of YOSEMA (Young Sexual Medicine Academicians), through which I support and promote research and education in the field of sexual medicine among young professionals.

Innovative Techniques

My practice stands out for its use of innovative techniques designed to improve patients’ quality of life. I am constantly on the lookout for the latest technological and methodological advancements to ensure optimal results and minimize the risks associated with these procedures.

Recent advances in penile implant surgery include techniques such as dorsal phalloplasty, which increases the visible length of the penis, and advanced surgical approaches such as ectopic reservoir placement and concomitant scrotoplasty4.

These innovations are designed to improve the safety, effectiveness, and aesthetics of implants.

Publications and Conferences

I have been involved in a number of scientific publications, including the treatment of a patient with advanced renal cell carcinoma and congenital neutropenia, and the removal of lymph nodes in cases of kidney cancer1.

I have also participated in webinars organized by the ESSM, where I moderated discussions on regenerative treatments for erectile dysfunction.³

Commitment to Sexual Health

As a member of the UNESCO Chair in Sexual Health, I am committed to promoting sexual rights and sexual health education. World Sexual Health Day, which is celebrated every year, is an important opportunity to raise public awareness of critical issues related to sexual health and to encourage open dialogue on these topics.²
