UTI Board of Experts Meeting 2025

Today, I had the honor of once again participating in the meeting of the expert committee on urinary tract infections in Frankfurt, where specialists interested in the latest developments in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs) gathered. This is a topic close to my heart, given the global rise in antibiotic resistance and its impact on the quality of life for many patients.

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has long warned about the rise in antibiotic resistance and considers urinary tract infections a critical area for monitoring and early action.

Every year, European Antibiotic Awareness Day reminds us that the prudent use of antibiotics is a shared responsibility of healthcare providers and patients. The use of appropriate treatment, the avoidance of unnecessary prescriptions, and prevention are central to the strategy.

Today, we have a number of promising treatments at our disposal: new antibiotics, vaccines, and alternative therapies. However, access to these innovations varies from country to country.

As a doctor, I believe that every patient should receive personalized treatment that takes into account not only the current infection, but also the risk of recurrence and resistance.

If you frequently suffer from recurring urinary tract infections or have concerns about your treatment, please don’t hesitate to contact me. In the meantime, let’s remain vigilant, informed, and open to these new approaches.
