Today I would like to share a few thoughts following my participation in the 2025 Journées d’Andrologie et de Médecine Sexuelle (JAMS), which will be held in Paris on September 12 and 13. Organized by the AFU, these conferences are dedicated to training urologists on key topics in modern andrology.
Topics Covered and Their Importance
Among the educational objectives, I found the following one particularly striking:
- Detecting a Testosterone Deficiency
- Medical Treatment of Male Infertility
- Start treatment for erectile dysfunction (using medical, mechanical, or surgical options)
- Explaining the various techniques of “AMP” (assisted reproductive technology)
- Managing Aesthetic Complications of Penile Implants
These topics are central to my daily practice because they relate to physical function, fertility, and self-confidence—three pillars that are inextricably linked to men’s well-being.
Clinical innovations listed
During the JAMS 2025 conference, several new ideas and practical improvements caught my attention. Some have already been included in the latest recommendations, while others are still under consideration:
- The ongoing importance of lifestyle changes (physical activity, diet, quitting smoking) in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, as also emphasized in the recent French guidelines.
- Combination therapies: for example, the combination of PDE5 inhibitors and mechanical devices (pumps, vacuum devices) for patients who respond poorly to monotherapies.
- Emerging treatments: cell therapies, PRP (platelet-rich plasma), alternative intracavernous injections — still in the research phase to confirm their long-term effectiveness and safety.
- Better education and sexual counseling are an integral part of treatment. Now more than ever, the patient’s voice, expectations, and experiences are essential to the success of treatment.
If you would like to learn more about any of these topics or discuss what this might mean for you as a patient, I would be happy to talk about it during your next appointment.
